A: VeraSIL™ Antispetic Skin Cleanser contains a blend of several ingredieints: The active medicinal ingredient is 70% Isopropyl alcohol. Our Antiseptic Cleanser also contains sever- al non medicinal ingredients including 3 ppm NanoSilver in Deionized water; 1% Hy- drogen Peroxide, Tocopherol (Vitamin E) and Citrus Limon fragance. The combination of these ingredients are capable of effectively destroying bacteria to provide antisep tic cleansing and to prevent and retard the growth of various fungi and microbes commonly found on the hands and wrists as prescribed under the Canadian Mona graph for IsoPropyl Alcohol and the claim language allowed by the CNHPD for non medicinal ingredients such as Colloidal Silver.

Q3: Does VeraSIL™ VeraSIL™ Antispetic Skin Cleanser contain glycerin, petroleum by-products or any other chemotoxic ingredients which are common to skin antiseptic liquids?

A:  No.

Q4:  What is the Recommended application time for the VeraSIL™ Protective Spray?

A: Apply a liberal coating of the Spray (usually 2-3 squirts of the pump bottle) to the hands and wrists and rub hands throughly for at least 30 seconds then let dry. 

Essentially, the VeraSIL™ Protective Spray is made up of 70% Isopropryl alcohol com bined with ultra-fine NanoSilver particles in highly purifed water along with dilute Hy drogen Peroxide so it is safe and non toxic to use when ingested or absorded.  It can remain in contact with the skin of the hands and wrists without casuing any irritation to these dermal tissues.

LIMITATIONS & CHALLENGES WITH CURRENT SURFACE DISINFECTANTS AND SKIN ANTISEPTICS ……..

There is an ever growing concern over the spread of disease/ infection such as H1N1 and Multi Drug Resistant bacteria such as MRSA and VRE and not just in Healthcare but the Food Services industry as well..…To combat the spread of disease and the issue of bacterial resistnace manufacturers have created more and more potent chemical based germicidal agents.

There is ALOT of confusion as to the differences between Cleaners; Detergents, Sanitizers and Disinfectants which are traditonally used to decontaminate inamiate surfaces and Antiseptics which are more commonly used to disinfect the skin.  Ofter times these terms are mistakingly used interchangeably….. Sanitizing is a chemical process that lessens and even kills some bacteria/germs on surfaces to make them safe for contact and to lessen the transmission of disease. Santiizers often serve a dual purpose and can be used to both decontaminate the skin as well as hard surfaces. Disinfecting requires a stronger solution to destroy germs rather than simply reducing them. Both methods are a step up from regular cleaning with detergents because cleaning only removes visible dirt and contaminants. When you sanitize or disinfect, you are removing potentially harmful bacteria and fungiithat are usally not visble to the naked eye.  Deodorizing is the simple act of removing a smell or odor and this can be achieved by all of the above but Deodorizers are not Disinfectants. There are also three distinctly different levels of Disinfection…..

High-Level Disinfection is the procedure which kills vegetative microorganisms and inactivates viruses, but not necessarily high numbers of bacterial spores. Such disinfectants are capable of sterilization when the contact time is relatively long (e.g., 6 to 10 hours). As high-level disinfectants, they are used for relatively short periods of time (e.g., 10 to 30 minutes). These chemical germicides are potent sporicides and, in the United States, are classified by the FDA as “Sterilant/Disinfectants”. They are formulated for use on critical care medical devices, NOT on environmental surfaces such as laboratory benches or floors.

Intermediate-Level Disinfection is the procedure which kills vegetative microorganisms, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, all fungi, and inactivates most viruses. Chemical germicides used in this procedure often correspond to US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved “Hospital Grade Disinfectants” that are also “tuberculocidal.” They are used commonly as detergent germicides in healthcare settings such as dental, medical and veterinary offices as well as labs and surgical suites for disinfection of benches, counter tops and other inamimate surfaces, as part of a decontaminiation protocol to prevent cross contaimination and the spread of disease/infection(s). 

Low-Level Disinfection is the procedure which kills most vegetative bacteria except M. tuberculosis, some fungi, and inactivates some viruses. The US EPA approves chemical germicides used in this procedure as “Sanitizers” which are intended for use on inaminate surfaces in bathrooms or on eating surfaces both at home and in public restaurants where the risk of picking up or transferring M. tuberculosis is less of a risk than in a hospital setting. Low level disinfectants include products such as diluted Sodium Hypochlorite (Bleach and or NaOCL) which are capable of killing weaker bacteria and viruses such as Poliovirus or Salmonella enterica.

The other portion of the broader Sanitizer market included over-the-counter consumer Antiseptic skin cleansers which can generally be broken down into two groups: Washes and Rubs.

Antiseptic Washes: Antiseptic wash products, also known as Antibacterial soaps, are intended for use with water and are rinsed off after use, and include hand washes /soaps and body washes. The USFDA supports the CDC’s recommendation to use plain soap and water to wash your hands. When water is not readily available, a hand sanitizer may be a suitable alternative.

Antiseptic Rubs:  Rubs are leave-on products, or hand “Sanitizers,” as well as Antiseptic wipes. These products are intended to be used when soap and water are not available, and are left on and not rinsed off with water.

NOTE: These products should be stored out of the reach of children and should be used with adult supervision.

As with the use of any chemical, there are several challenges in dealing with Skin Antiseptics, including:

1. Antibiotic Resistance – Antibiotics are effective against bacteria. But what happens if your body builds up resistance to Antibiotics, and in turn promotes resistance to bacteria?Triclosan contributes to making bacteria resistant to antibiotics. Using hand sanitizers may actually lower your resistance to diseases by killing good bacteria, which helps protect against bad bacteria. The VeraSIL Santizing Skin Cleanser addresses this issue by; a) NOT containing any Triclosan and b) containing a combination of 70% Isopropyl Alcohol (“IPA”) NanoSilver and Hydrogen peroxide which provides for better bacterial clearance rates and thus a lower risk of Antibioitic resistance.

Overexposure to antibiotics or improper antibiotic use can lead to bacterial resistance, making it more difficult or even impossible to treat.

2. Toxic chemicals: What nearly ALL Cleaners, Detergents, Disinfectants and Hand Sanitizers have in common is that they are typically manufactured with a broad array of toxic chemicals. Of increasing concern is the closely reated issue of developing Antibiotic resistance due to use of Antibiotic chemicals….Antibiotics are effective against many bacteria.… but, what happens if your body builds up resistance to antibiotics, and in turn promotes resistance to bacteria?  One of the more common non-alcohol based disinfectant sanitizer compounds used today is called Triclosan (Ergosan DP300, Manufactured by Monsanto.) Triclosan has been proven to contribute to making bacteria resistant to antibiotics. Using hand sanitizers which contain Triclosan may actually lower your resistance to diseases by killing good bacteria, which helps protect against bad bacteria. In a 2011 study by the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, researchers found that health care employees who were most likely to use hand sanitizers over soap and water for routine hand washing were nearly six times more at risk for outbreaks of norovirus, which causes most cases of acute gastroenteritis. Over-exposure to antibiotics and antibiotic disinfectant santizing agents like Triclosan can lead to bacterial resistance, making it more difficult or even impossible to treat.

If your hand sanitizer is scented, then it’s likely loaded with toxic chemicals. Companies aren’t required to disclose the ingredients that make up their secret scents, and therefore generally are made from dozens of chemicals. VeraSIL’s Antiseptic Skin Cleanser contains ONLY six (6) basic ingredients:  1) 70% IPA 2) 3ppm NanoSilver 3) Deionized Water 4) 1% Hydrogen Peroxide 5) Tocopherol and 6) Organic Citrus Limon fragrance.

Most synthetic fragrances also contain phthalates, which are endocrine disrupters that mimic hormones and could alter genital development.  You should also look out for Parabens, which are in many skincare / Antiseptic products. They are used to preserve other ingredients and extend a product’s shelf life. The VeraSIL Antiseptic Skin Cleanser does NOT contain any Parabens or chemical preservatives – The Colloidal Silver contained as a non medicinal ingredient in our VeraSIL Antiseptic Skin Cleanser is a naturally potent Antimicrobial and Antifungal preservative and is very effective at retarding and inhibitng the growth of bacteria /germs.

3.  Weaker Immune System. Studies have shown that Triclosan can also harm the immune system, which protects your body against disease. Researchers at the University of Michigan School of Public Health found that Triclosan may negatively affect human immune function. Compromising the immune system can make people more susceptible to allergies, and more vulnerable to the toxic chemical Bisphenol A, which is found in plastics. In the study, children and teens with higher levels of triclosan were more likely to be diagnosed with hay fever and other allergies.  The VeraSIL Antiseptic Skin Cleanser does NOT contain Triclosan.

4. Hormone Disruption. Another effect of triclosan is hormone problems. The US FDA says research shows triclosan may lead to hormonal disruptions and cause bacteria to adapt to its antimicrobial properties, which creates more antibiotic-resistant strains. Animal studies have shown that the compound could change the way hormones work in the body, raising concerns and warranting further investigation to better understand how they might affect humans.

5. Alcohol Poisoning – Just because it doesn’t have Triclosan, doesn’t mean it’s completely safe. The active ingredient in some hand sanitizers is usually a type of alcohol that acts as an antimicrobial that kills bacteria. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control recommends Ethyl Alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol, or a mix of both in a concentration of 60% to 95%. In March of 2012, six California teenagers were hospitalized with alcohol poisoning from drinking hand sanitizer, making it the latest in a string of household products used to induce intoxication, ABC News reported. A few squirts of hand sanitizer could equal a couple of shots of hard liquor. And it’s not just teenagers. Younger children have accidentally ingested it in the past. The VeraSIL Antiseptic Skin Cleanser contains 70% IPA which is a very safe from of Alcohol.

Currently, there are very stringent protocols and safety guidelines which have been established by the CDC, NIOSH, EPA, FDA and local jurisdictions for the proper handling and disposal of Hospital Grade Disinfectants and Alcohol and Non Alcohol based Skin Antispetics because of their potential toxicity to the water auquifer, the environment and the healthcare worker.

The use of Silver technology has recently gained favour with the US FDA with its clearance of products like Surfacine which is a water-insoluble antimicrobial-drug compound (silver iodide) in a surface-immobilized coating (a modified polyhexamethylenebiguanide) that is capable of chemical recognition and interaction with the lipid bilayer of the bacterial outer cell membrane by electrostatic attraction. The intimate microbial contact with the surface results in transfer of the antimicrobial – drug component (silver) directly from the coating to the organism.  But this is not a sterilant / disinfectant application – this is simply a low level disinfectant for non critical care surfaces and inaminate objects such as bedpans and counter tops etc. – it is not designed as a Skin Antiseptic for direct contact with human skin.

The use of silver ions as a chemotherapeutic wound dressing have a long clinical history of success but, the challenge with ionic silver wound wash solutions is that the silver ion only has a plus one charge (missing one electron) so when it targets a bacterial cell wall and grabs an electron it becomes “neutralralized’ – it then looses its charge and any residual ability to affect the microrganism. This means that the concentration of charged ionic silver particles reqired to provide antibacterial activity must be extremely high.  Additionally, ionic silver has not been proven effective against polymicrobial biofilms and so if you cannot remove/irradiacte the intracellular matrix which ‘houses’ multiple bacterial and fungal strains then you cannot effectively disinfect and remove the source of the infection.

For these reasons, there are only a few wound cleansing solutions which contain ionic silver. The most common is a Topical Silver Sulfadiazine solution which has lost its significance based on recommendations to avoid the topical use of chemotherapeutics, its cytotoxicity and its risk of absorptive side effects.

For much the same reasons, 3 Meta-analyses performed by Cochrane et al., * came to the following conclusions about ionic silver: “Silver [Ionic] can inhibit wound secretion and odor, and some studies showed a promotion of wound healing”. A recent meta-analysis of clinical trials over the last 15 years shows 39 clinical trials on the subject of [ionic] silver inwound treatment. In 28 of the 39 controlled studies, positive aspects were described for wounds, such as accelerated wound healing and bacterial reduction as well as positive aspects in quality of life or pain reduction. On the basis of an expert recommendation, the use of [ionic] Silver in the treatment of critically colonized or infected wounds, as well as in the case of a detected MDRO (Multi Drug Resistant Organisms), was recommended for a maximum of 14 days.

AN ALTERNATIVE APPROACH IS REQUIRED…..

Three of the biggest advantages of the NanoSilver technology is that a) it has been proven to safe for ingestion and use on the skin b) it helps reduce the risk of Antibiotic resistance by increasing bacterial clearance rates and c) it has broad spectrum abilities as a Antibacterial but, on its own, NanoSilver still does not have potent quick kill rates needed for a  general purpose Hand Sanitizer / Antispetic Cleanser. Numerous studies have shown that when NanoSilver is combined with Hydrogen Peroxide, – together, they are highly synergistic, (which means you get improved antibacterial capabilities).  Although this formulation remains safe and non toxic for general use and is non drying, it still does not have the quick kill times needed in a Hand Sanitizer / Antispetic Skin Cleanser.

Description: VeraSIL™ Antiseptic Skin Cleanser is an Isopropyl Alcohol based solution which contains NanoSilver and Hydrogen Peroxide in ultra-pure water, with the same consistency of Normal Saline – but it acts like a Super-oxidized water with powerful antibacterial capabilities. VeraSIL™ Antiseptic Skin Cleanser is recognized as an Antimicrobial Preservative and does not burn, stain or leave a sticky residue on the skin. This Antibacterial Hand Sanitizing spray contains no glycerin, pthalates or sulfate products. Indications for Use: Used to spray onto the hands and wrists to help kill pathogenic microorganisms which may found on the skin.  Directions for Use: 1. Bottle of Protective Spray  (Figure 1) a. Unlock the spray pump. b. Hold bottle 3-5 inches from your hands. And place thumb on spray pump. c. Verify the consistency and color of the product before depressing the spray pump. d. Apply 2-3 pumps of the spray evenly onto your hands and then Antiseptic into your hands and wrists for at least 30 seconds. Clinical Data: Extensive Laboratory (in-vitro) documentation has confirmed that the VeraSIL™ Antiseptic Skin Cleanser is highly effective at decontaminating and killing harmful bacteria and germs on the hands and wrists which have been colonized with various pathogenic microorganisms. This product is not harmful or irritating to the skin because it does not contain any parabens, antibiotics, pthalates, sulphates or chemical fragrances – it only contains 70% IPA, dilute Hydrogren Peroxide and 3ppm NanoSilver in highly purified Deionized Water – it is therefore safe and non toxic when used on the skin.

Items returned within 30 days of purchase with a return authorization number on the outside and inside of the return box will be credited 100% (not refunded) so long as the packaging is still in tact and the majority of the product has not been used. Product returned between 31 and 60 days from purchase date is subject to a 20% restocking fee. VeraSIL will not accept returns after 60 days. Errors in shipment must be reported within 14 days of invoice date. All return authorization numbers become invalid 90 days after date of issue. A return authorization number must accompany all returns to receive proper credit.
